Daddy Drag

a performance by Leyla Josephine

Poster and Flyer Photography and Design, Photo Documentation

This is a drag show about dads. Good dads, daft dads, dads who wear slogan t-shirts, dads that put on barbecues, dads that tell dad jokes, dads that are bad at dancing. This is a show about dads who are absent and dads who are not very good dads at all.

For the poster and flyer image we decided to depict an important moment in the performance where Leyla herself emerges from her Daddy persona in a Father-of-the-Bride speech. So we took that and ran with it and made this really kitsch, wedding invitation inspired flyer design.

Leyla is a well-known spoken-word performer and theatre-maker, more recently film-maker, so we had to make sure that she was recognisable, even in her Daddy costume and makeup. This moment of her emerging from her Daddy character provided the perfect visual friction between person and persona we were looking for.
